PS81 Chess club can Improve Academic Skills

One of the most notable benefits that children may experience if they join a school chess club is sharpening the academic skills that can help them throughout their educational journey. According to Education Week, those who played chess experienced a wealth of benefits. 78% had improved problem-solving skills, 75% had improved strategic thinking, 73% had increased in critical thinking, 64% had an improvement in their decision making and 62% experienced an increased general interest in school.

Chess can often be seen as a mental workout. The game requires players to engage their brains by exploring several different combinations while predicting outcomes. Members of a chess club are forced to focus to adjust their strategies on the fly based on what the opponent is doing. All of these skills can benefit a child both while they’re enrolled in school and after they graduate.
